The Italian Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida has postponed the introduction of content and nutritional information on wine labels, which is due today, by decree by three months to 8 March 2024. The aim is to be able to use labels that have already been printed. The postponement only applies to wines sold in Italy.

According to producer associations in Italy, around 50 million labels with the letter "i" ("ingredienti" = ingredients) have been printed to indicate the new information. The 2021 EU regulation caused a stir on 24 November when the Commission clarified once again that the list of ingredients must be preceded by the word "ingredients" written out in full in the respective national language (wein.plus reported on the specific requirementsback in the summer ).

The EU Commission's regulation, which requires ingredients and nutritional values to be stated directly on wine labels or by means of a QR code for all wines and aromatised wine products produced from 8 December 2023 onwards, provides for the possibility of a derogation. This means that its introduction can be postponed by the member states by one quarter.
