According to the Italian statistical office Istat, wine exports in the first quarter of 2021 are almost back to the level of 2019, the last reference period before the pandemic. Although they are still down on the same period last year (- 3.9%), the figures show a slow recovery. While historical markets such as the UK, Germany and the US continue to weaken, there are positive signals from Russia (+17.1%) Asia and Switzerland (+10.5%).
Above all, however, China continues to grow: in the first three months of 2021, Italian wine worth 28 million euros was imported, which is around 67 per cent more than in the previous year and only six per cent less than in the same period of 2019.
