A tanker truck loaded with wine was used for the organised smuggling of several thousand kilos of drugs, which shuttled between Italy and Spain. This is what the Italian police investigated. During raids, they arrested 19 people and searched the houses of the suspects. As wine-searcher.com reports, the investigation against the smuggling ring had lasted over five years. Those arrested had been running the tanker truck filled with wine regularly between northern Italy and Malaga.

In the course of the investigation, the police found out that the dealers in Malaga had dumped a sealed metal container with the drugs in the full wine tank. The truck then made its way to Italy.

The drugs in the wine tank were destined for customers all over Italy. According to the investigators, the drugs were also delivered to Lombardy, Lazio and Abruzzo.
The dealers had transported 1,500 to 2,000 kg of hashish every two months and about three kilos of cocaine every month from Spain, reports "La Repubblica". About a quarter of it was destined for the Sardinian market.

For European drug investigators, Malaga is currently considered the most important international hub for drug trafficking in Europe.
