The German sparkling wine group Henkell Freixenet has taken over the British Sparkling Wine producer Bolney Wine Estate in Haywards Heath.

Bolney is considered one of the pioneers among sparkling wine estates in England. The winery, located near Brighton, was founded as early as 1972 by Janet and Rodney Pratt. Today, it is run by their daughter Samantha Linter. Bolney has a portfolio of high-quality sparkling and still wines. Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Dornfelder and Rondo are cultivated on about 7 ha of vineyards. Nothing is known about the purchase price.

"We are convinced that as the global market leader in the sparkling wine market, we can further strengthen the image of English Sparkling Wine nationally and internationally," said Dr Andreas Brokemper, CEO of Henkell Freixenet. For years, English Sparkling Wine has been developing disproportionately positively to the already growing sparkling wine market in Great Britain on a high quality and price level. The increase in turnover in this segment in 2021 was 56 percent compared to the previous year.
