The Hamburg-based wine distribution company Hawesko (Hanseatisches Wein und Sekt Kontor) is apparently about to take over the Austrian wine retail chain Wein & Co. This was reported by the Viennese daily newspaper "Der Standard" with reference to "informed circles". Rumours of a Wein & Co sale had already become public in January. At that time, Hawesko had only confirmed its interest, but denied negotiations on the matter.
This has now changed. "We have started negotiations in the last few weeks", Hawesko spokesman Thomas Hutchinson confirmed to the "Standard". At present, the conditions of a majority acquisition are being examined and the value of the company determined (due diligence). According to "Standard", Hutchinson assumes that the name "Wein & Co" will be retained if the takeover takes place.
