Hawesko, the listed German wine merchant based in Hamburg, posted sales of € 148.2 million in the third quarter of 2022, bringing its year-to-date total to € 460.3 million. While quarterly sales rose moderately by two per cent compared to the same quarter last year, they fell by 2.1 per cent in the nine months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, although pre-tax profits shrank by around 40 per cent. "The inflation-driven cost increases seen so far were not foreseeable in this way and cannot be fully compensated for in the short term despite an increase in the margin," Hawesko announced.

Sales of the B2B business rose in the third quarter by eight percent to EUR 47.8 million. The group achieved this due to the integration of the Czech wine trade chain Global Wines & Spirits, which was acquired some time ago and has eleven branches.

For the full year 2022, the Hawesko Board of Management anticipates a decline in sales "of between minus one and minus six percent compared to the Corona year 2021". He expects a pre-tax return of between 6.0 and 7.0 percent and remains cautious in his forecast: "Influenced by inflation effects, a result at the lower end of the range is likely."

The Hawesko Group, with a total of around 1,200 employees, is one of Europe's largest wine merchants. it includes 15 trading companies in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
