Exports of German wines increased significantly in the first quarter of 2024. This was announced by the German Wine Institute (DWI). Both the volume and value of wines exported were nine per cent higher than in the same period of the previous year. Exports to China increased by 47 per cent in value and 39 per cent in volume. The Netherlands, Poland, Japan and Denmark also saw double-digit growth in turnover and sales. In the twelve months from April 2023 to March 2024, exports of German wines totalled 1.17 million hectolitres worth 392 million euros. This represents an increase in value of 4.1 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier, while the volume remained the same. For producers, the average price for a litre of wine abroad was 13 cents higher at 3.35 euros.
