The quality-tested volume of German rosé wine rose by nine per cent last year compared to 2019, to around one million hectolitres. This is reported by the German Wine Institute (DWI).

According to the figures, the share of rosé wine in all quality-tested wines rose by one percentage point to 13 per cent. Ten years ago, it was only 9.7 per cent, according to the DWI. The increase in rosé has reduced the volume of white wines, which now account for 63 per cent of German quality and Prädikat wine production. According to the DWI, red wines continue to account for 24 per cent of production.

A total of 7.6 million hectolitres of wine passed the official quality wine test in Germany. The share of dry wines remained at a consistently high level of 48 per cent in 2020. Of the remaining quality-tested wines, 21 per cent were bottled semi-dry, 30 per cent "lieblich" and sweet and one per cent without any flavour indication.
