The European Wine Industry Association (CEEV) has introduced U-Label, a QR code-based platform for indicating ingredients and nutritional values on wine and spirits labels. This information will be required by law in the EU from 2023 and can be provided either on the bottle label or in digital form. U-Label is a standardised tool to provide information on ingredients (grapes and sulphites, but also citric acid, gum arabic, sucrose, etc.), nutritional values (energy, sugar), organic and eco-labels, which are automatically translated into all 24 EU languages. 16 wine and spirits producers are taking part in a pilot to test and improve the digital label. From 1 November, it will be available to all wine producers in Europe for an annual fee of at least 250 euros.
