The winners of the "Excellent Vinotheques" competition were announced by the German Wine Institute (DWI). At a ceremony in Ingelheim, the new German Wine Queen Sina Erdrich presented the certificates to the 30 winners from nine wine-growing regions. The DWI organised the competition for the second time after five years in order to take into account the many new buildings and redesigns at the wineries. From 144 applications, a jury of experts selected the best according to the following quality criteria: architecturally coherent overall appearance, modern, high-quality interior design, opening hours, seating, appealing product presentations, attractive internet presence and further information about the region and tourist offers. The competence and foreign language skills of the staff were also evaluated. DWI Managing Director Monika Reule emphasised the tourist significance of the vinotheques: "With the special atmosphere of their stylish vinotheques, wine producers contribute to a piece of living wine culture and offer additional incentives for visiting the German wine regions and tasting typical regional wines".
