The Spanish wine company Félix Solis Avantis (Viña Albali) has commissioned the most modern barrel cellar in Europe. The 18-storey building with a capacity for 60,000 barrels, 48,000 pallets and 250 million litres of wine is operated entirely by robots, as can be seen in the video. They replace forklifts and can move up to 1,000 barrels a day as well as clean them with steam. The new warehouse replaces two smaller facilities and is now monitored and managed by two employees instead of twelve.

The wine warehouse was built at the winery's headquarters in Valdepenas, is equipped with 6,000 solar cells and is thus also energy-autonomous. The investment of 70 million euros is the largest in the company's 70-year history and, according to manager Richard Cochrane, primarily serves quality assurance and improvement. The time- and cost-intensive maturation in oak barrels, which is a key element for the quality of the wines, can thus be ensured in the long term.
