The German Wine Institute (DWI) has chosen the winners of the competition "Excellent Wine Restaurants 2021". They had shown "special commitment" to German wine in the past year. In the "Gourmet" category, the expert jury declared the "Kronenschlösschen" restaurant and hotel from Hattenheim in the Rheingau region the winner. In the upscale gastronomy category, the prize went to the restaurant "Reisers" am Stein in Würzburg. The wine bar "Eastgrape" in Frankfurt am Main was awarded in the category "wine gastronomy". The jurors chose the "vinocentral" in Darmstadt as the best international gastronomy of the competition and in the category hotel gastronomy the restaurant "Heimat" in the 25Hours-Hotel Hafencity in Hamburg emerged as the winner. The winner in the category "General/Regional Gastronomy" was the restaurant "Nobelhart & Schmutzig" in Berlin.
The competition is organised in cooperation with the mineral water producer Selters and the magazine "Der Feinschmecker". The eighth competition of the award was again marked by the Corona pandemic, reports the DWI. "We extended the entry deadline for the competition due to the special situation in the gastronomy sector last year, which is why the winners are only being announced now. However, this in no way diminishes the special achievements and commitment of the prize winners," explained Managing Director Monika Reule.
The prizes are awarded in the course of the year in the winning restaurants in the presence of a jury member. The respective laudatios on the award winners can be seen online at deutscheweine.de.
The prize for the "Excellent Wine Restaurants" is endowed with 3,000 euros each, which can be used for campaigns around German wine. In addition, the prize winners can hire the German Wine Queen to host and accompany wine events.
