Château d'Arche has unveiled its first dry white Bordeaux based on a scientific study of botrytis. With targeted information from the vineyards, the harvest was started at the exact moment when botrytis had begun to develop. According to Château, the timing was crucial, because only exactly at the onset of botrytis would the aromas in the grapes be clearly intensified and aromatically as intense as in a sweet Sauternes.

The cuvée of 85 percent Semillon and 15 percent Sauvignon grapes comes from vines that are on average 40 years old. The "A - Château d'Arche" is matured for six months on the fine lees, part of it in Sauternes barrels, in order to intensify the aroma.

Didier Galhaud, operations director of Château d'Arche, says: "Our know-how in the production of Sauternes, combined with this innovative technique we have developed to control botrytis, has enabled us to make this new white wine from Bordeaux. This is the reason why the wine is so aromatic and complex, which distinguishes it from other dry white wines." With this, he wants to meet the taste of today's wine connoisseurs.
