The fine wine shop "DerWeinWeber" in Bensheim is looking for a buyer or partner. Owner Ralf Klessen would like to sell his exclusive wine shop on the Hessian Bergstrasse "into the hands of enthusiasts", as he says. He is open as to what the future constellation of owners will look like.

DerWeinWeber has been a very personal address for good wine from the very beginning and still is. Founded over 15 years ago by its namesake and run by Ralf Klessen for the past seven years, DerWeinWeber has established itself as a specialist for high-quality growths, spirits and delicatessen with a high proportion of regular customers. The wines come from Italy, France, Austria, Germany and Spain as well as Lebanon, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, South Africa. New Zealand and the USA - produced by small, family-run, mostly rarely found wineries as well as world-famous houses. The portfolio includes such famous names as Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux, Château Mouton-Rothschild, Château Haut-Brion, Château Palmer, Château Cheval Blanc and Château Angélus, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, Vega Sicilia, Opus One Winery, Château Musar as well as major champagne brands. In total, there are more than 150 producers in the range.

Three-quarters of DerWeinWeber's high-calibre range is sold to end consumers who order online or by telephone; wholesalers and the restaurant trade account for a quarter of its customers. "I don't run a wine shop either, I just keep a well-stocked warehouse," says Ralf Klessen, who, like the company's founder, runs the business as a hobby. However, in view of an average annual turnover of about half a million euros, a full economic existence is also possible - important to know for potential successors or partners.

In recent years, Klessen has invested a lot in search engine optimisation. "As a result, DerWeinWeber has a very good ranking on the internet, and this must be maintained further," he explains. Other competitive advantages are long-standing, grown relationships with producers - which are indispensable especially for the annual en primeur business in the Bordelais in order to receive any allocations at all from the top growths - plus Europe-wide contacts, the great trust of customers and suppliers and, as a special treasure, a stock of old Madeira wines. The company also has a second internet shop called "Weindepot Schenck", which offers "entry-level wines".

As a successor or partner, Klessen would like a person who brings love, passion and expertise for wine as well as commercial understanding and entrepreneurial spirit and ideally lives in the greater Rhine-Main-Neckar area. "DerWeinWeber is a well-established and networked specialist wine shop and is therefore also an excellent entry point for sommeliers who would like to move into the fine wine trade," he continues. If desired, he will also be happy to remain at the side of the now sought-after third WeinWeber generation as a co-partner or advisor.
