Crémant was in greater demand than ever before in 2021: a new sales record was set with 96.6 million bottles, after 90 million bottles in 2019 and the pandemic-related decline to 75 million bottles in 2020.
Édouard Cassanet, vice-president of the national association of crémant producers, holds out the prospect that sales will continue to grow and possibly reach 100 million bottles as early as this year. At the same time, he points out that the 26 percent lower production in 2021 due to late frosts could become a "brake on development. In 2023, we won't be able to satisfy the high demand, especially from abroad."
