The global fine wine trading platform Liv-ex (London International Vintners Exchange) has made a survey among its traders on the Bordeaux 2021 En Primeur tasting. This gives a picture of how the global wine trade assesses the quality and what prices are expected.

According to this, Château Margaux is the wine of the vintage from the point of view of the international Fine Wine traders, closely followed by Château Lafite Rothschild. For wines with a subscription price of less than 600 British pounds (about 513 euros) per case of 12, Château Langoa Barton won the most votes. On average, Liv-ex members rated the 2021 vintage slightly higher than 2014 and only slightly lower than 2017. Freshness and low alcohol content as well as a good level of acidity were named as the most important characteristics of the vintage. The wines are said to be elegant, not produced in blockbuster style and should have good ageing potential. They are generally described as "better than expected", with "some nice surprises", but also disappointments. In general, 2021 is considered a heterogeneous year across all appellations and châteaux.

More than 71 percent of the merchants expect a lower en primeur demand than in the years before. More than half expect it to be around 20 per cent lower than for Bordeaux 2020. However, there will also be fewer wines on the market due to the difficult yield conditions. The traders have also given a price assessment: on average, they expect a price level that is 2.7 percent below that of 2020, but at the same time 20.7 percent above that of 2019.
