(c) MinZeven - Cordula Eich

The author and winemaker Cordula Eich died a few days ago as a result of her cancer at the age of 52. Born Silvia Nowak, Eich became famous in the wine industry when she published the wine guide "Super Schoppen Shopper" in 2010. The career changer tasted over 1,000 supermarket wines for it and was appreciated for her humorous descriptions and her original rating scheme. Another five editions followed until Cordula Eich had to stop the book project in 2015 for health reasons. As a marketing expert, she later worked as a lecturer at Geisenheim University.

Together with her husband Willem, she realised her dream a few years ago and founded the MinZeven winery in the Netherlands on a former Demeter farm. In a climate that is harsh for viticulture and on a cultivation area seven metres below sea level, she planted the Piwi varieties Hibernal, Cal 6-04 and Souvignier gris on half a hectare. The goal: sparkling wines from traditional bottle fermentation, unsulphured and spontaneously fermented. In 2020, their first limited edition bottle called Bruut & Bruizend went on sale and was highly praised by the trade press.

Cordula Eich will be remembered by her companions and colleagues for her fun-loving nature. After her death, she published a moving farewell video on Facebook.
