Catena Zapata

The Argentinian winery Catena Zapata has been awarded the World's Best Vineyards Award 2023. Founded in 1902, the family winery is the oldest estate in Argentina and is considered a pioneer in the quality revolution of Malbec. This year saw the opening of their first restaurant, Angélica Cocina Maestra, at La Pirámide winery.

Second place was again won by the Spanish winery Marqués de Riscal in Rioja. It was voted the best wine tourism destination in Europe. Marqués de Riscal now includes a futuristic hotel designed by Frank Gehry. It offers 61 luxurious rooms, including ten suites.

In third place is the Chilean Vik winery, followed by Creation in South Africa, which was named the overall African winner. The French Château Smith Haut Lafitte **** came in fifth , Bodega Garzón (Uruguay) sixth, Montes (Chile) seventh, Schloss Johannisberg **** (Germany) eighth, Bodegas Salentein (Argentina) ninth and El Enemigo Wines (Argentina) 10th. The Dr. Loosen Winery **** is in 12th place, the Domäne Wachau **** from Austria in 14th place.

This year, Antinori in Chianti Classico (Marchesi Antinori), which took first place last year, was inducted into the World's Best Vineyards Hall of Fame. It is reserved for the wineries that top the list of winners in each case. Catena Zapata will be inducted into the Hall of Fame next year.

Every year, the World's Best Vineyards Award recognises the best destinations for wine tourists around the world. A top-class jury evaluates not only the beauty of the landscape but also the gastronomic and cultural offer as well as the architecture.
