Ralf Bengel, Chief Oenologist of the Hessian State Wine Estates Eberbach Monastery (Rheingau), is moving to the Schloss Vollrads Winery in Oestrich-Winkel at the end of the year after 15 years. There he will assist the managing director Rowald Hepp.

The viticultural engineer from Württemberg began his career at the Graf von Kanitz winery in Lorch and moved to the state wineries in 2003, initially as manager of the Assmannshausen domain. Later he took over the entire wine production of Kloster Eberbach with about 250 ha of vineyards. He is currently responsible for around 100 different wines and sparkling wines. Dieter Greiner, managing director of the state wineries, regretted Bengel's departure and emphasized that he had experienced very successful years together with him.

Rowald Hepp, managing director of Schloss Vollrads, explained that Bengel not only knows a lot about wine. Through his work in Eberbach Monastery and at the Graf Kanitz winery, he is also very familiar with the challenges of gastronomy and monument conservation. Ralf Bengel will manage the winery as his "right hand" when Hepp is absent, for example when he is in charge of foreign markets. In recent years, not only has the vineyard area of the estate grown, but also the marketing, the maintenance of the historic buildings as well as events and upscale gastronomy require "presence around the clock".
