Following initial estimates, the industry association Comité Champagne has now announced the official sales figures for 2023. A total of 299 million bottles were delivered, a decrease of 8.2 per cent in France (127 million bottles) and exports (172 million bottles) compared to the record year of 2022 with 325 million bottles. However, the figures abroad are significantly higher than in 2019 (156 million bottles), the last year before the coronavirus crisis. Exports currently account for 57 per cent of total sales, compared to 45 per cent ten years ago. In 2022, many retailers built up larger stocks for fear of shortages.

Due to higher prices and good demand for higher-quality champagnes and priceigecuvées, sales were maintained at around 6 billion euros.

Maxime Toubart, President of the Syndicat Général des Vignerons and Co-President of the Comité Champagne, recalled in a statement that Champagne is produced in a defined area and that permanent volume growth is therefore not possible. 2023 therefore means a "return to normality for Champagne." 297.3 million bottles were delivered in 2019.
