The Spanish DO Cava reports an all-time sales record of 252 million bottles for 2021. It achieved 17.3 per cent growth compared to 2020, with more than two-thirds of sales coming from exports. Cava had the highest exports of any Spanish DO in 2021, growing by over eleven per cent and accounting for 71 per cent of its total sales. In the European Union, the increase was around three per cent. Germany remains the main customer country here, with an increase of 4.2 per cent. Third countries recorded growth of over 30 per cent, the USA even by 40 per cent. In Spain, sales rose by 19 per cent to almost 69 million bottles.

The share of organically produced Cava also rose by 65 percent to 22 million bottles. The wines of the Cava Superior category may only be produced organically from 2025.
The DO Cava comprises 350 wineries and 38,000 hectares of vineyards.
