The charity auction of wines from the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges only raised 2.28 million euros on Sunday. The result was 36 per cent below that of the 2023 auction, which raised 3.6 million euros. Nevertheless, it is the second-best result in its 63-year history. The total was also lower than in 2022, but more lots were auctioned back then, resulting in a slightly lower average price than in 2024. This year, the average price for red wines was 15,700 euros per barrel and 20,300 euros for white wines.

Pièce barrels from the Hospices winery were auctioned off. A total of 150 lots from the highly prized 2023 vintage went under the hammer, including the Cuvée Hugues Perdrizet for a record 60,000 euros. It comes from the estate's oldest vines and was purchased at auction by Maison Albert Bichot ***. This wine is named after the man who donated the first vineyard to the hospital, which was founded in 1270, centuries ago. The Cuvée des Bienfaiteurs, which consists of nine Premier Cru vineyards from the estate, also achieved a record price of 66,980 euros. The proceeds from this barrel traditionally go to a charitable organisation. This year's beneficiary is a medical foundation in Burgundy.

Auctioneer Hugues Cortot emphasised that the decline was foreseeable in view of the "tense international context". The more famous auction of the Hospices de Beaune in November also generated almost 22 per cent less than in 2022.
