The Prosecco DOC consortium has filed a lawsuit against a British company that produces chewy sweets called "Prosecco" and markets them in several countries. The court in Venice has now granted the application and stopped the marketing. The Prosecco Consortium has been monitoring and controlling the protection of the designation of origin for many years. In 2023 alone, around 50,000 international offers in both stationary and online retail were checked. 200 products from various sectors were warned.

"I am very pleased with the court's decision," commented the President of the Prosecco DOC Consortium, Stefano Zanette, on the judgement. It confirms the constant commitment to protecting the Prosecco DOC designation. On the one hand, these incidents demonstrate the brand's high profile, on the other hand they are a major threat to the appellation.
