For the first time, the company Biopythos from near Limoges is offering ceramic amphorae that are individually produced using a 3D printing process. The advantages of this production method are the speed with which they are manufactured and the possible variety of shapes. Since no plaster moulds are needed, a vessel can be completed in a few hours. Almost all sizes and shapes, from tapered to square, are possible, which means that the amphorae can be adapted to the space available in the wineries. The printed amphorae are dried and boiled as in the traditional process, which allows different degrees of permeability.
