The Austrian wine-growing region of Wagram receives a DAC ("Districtus Austriae Controllatus") regulation. This means that 17 of the 18 wine-growing regions produce legally protected, area-typical quality wines with precisely defined characteristics. A DAC regulation can regulate different aspects of winemaking that make up the origin typicality of a wine, starting with the variety to the cultivation and the earliest possible time of sale. According to the system of the pyramid of origin, for Wagram DAC, from the 2021 vintage onwards, area, local and Rieden wines will be on sale. While the regional and local wines can draw on a wide range of grape varieties, wines with a vineyard designation are limited to the varieties Grüner Veltliner, Roter Veltliner and Riesling.

The wine-growing region of Wagram, which covers about 2,400 hectares, stretches 30 km north and south along the Danube and also includes the wine town of Klosterneuburg on the city limits of Wien. The area is characterised by the Wagram ("Wogenrain", meaning "sea shore"), which gives the area its name, a terrain step on the northern bank of the Danube, and the partly thick loess deposits.
