The Alvaro Palacios winery from Priorat has presented Spain's first Grand Cru with the 2017 "L'Ermita". The wine was classified for the first time in the quality level "Gran Vinya Classificada" and thus belongs to the top of the Priorat classification system. For this, the grapes must come from a single vineyard whose vines are at least 35 years old and, according to the regulations, consist of at least 90 percent "indigenous varieties". In addition, the wine must have been produced continuously for at least five vintages. The "L'Ermita" comes from Garnacha vines that are over 80 years old, the yield was only six hl/ha. In total, Alvaro Palacios produced less than 1,000 bottles of it.
