The London Wine Fair reports a 33 percent drop in visitors compared to 2019. 8,822 admissions were counted at this year's fair, compared to 13,260 three years ago. Fair director Hannah Tovey is nevertheless satisfied: "The feedback from exhibitors is extremely positive. Many of them have already booked their stand for 2023 and report very good visits from purchasing as well as many important decision-makers," she commented on the figures. She said Tovey had deliberately targeted lower visitor numbers: "We have rigorously continued our policy of charging admission - even though we knew this would have a negative impact on overall attendance. Our commitment to reaching qualitative rather than quantitative visitors remains unwavering.".

Officials also cited the rescheduled date of the fair to avoid coinciding with ProWein, restrictions on international travel and strikes on the London Underground as other reasons for the drop in visitors. In addition, fewer visitors from the gastronomy and hotel sector were registered, which could be due to the labour shortage in this sector. Many sommeliers and restaurateurs might not have found time to visit the fair.
