In Croatia, police have arrested the two perpetrators who allegedly stole 45 bottles worth 1.6 million euros from the two-star restaurant Atrio in Cáceres, Spain, in October. There is still no trace of the loot, including a bottle of Château d'Yquem 1806 and 38 bottles of Romanée Conti.

José Polo, sommelier and co-owner of the restaurant and hotel Atrio, said in a statement that he had learned of the arrests from the media. The coup itself had been "perfectly prepared". The thieves - a man and a woman who spoke English - visited the restaurant up to three times to scout. For the night of 27 October, the woman had booked a hotel room, to which they both retreated after dinner and the obligatory tour of the wine cellar, which was well worth seeing. After one o'clock in the morning, they called room service and ordered something to eat; they were told that the kitchen was closed but that a salad would be brought to them on request. José Polo: "We assume that at that moment they went downstairs, opened two doors with electronic locks and took the 45 bottles. At five in the morning, the same couple came down with bags and left." Police highlight the "great professionalism, specialisation and perfect planning of the robbery"

Last March, the restaurant reached an agreement with its insurance company. It was agreed not to disclose the contents or any compensation received. The Château d'Yquem 1806 alone is valued at around 310,000 euros, the Romanée Conti were on the wine list at 12,000 euros each.
