The Vinitaly wine fair draws a positive balance: With 93,000 visitors, around 5,000 more came than in the previous year. The increase is almost exclusively due to the 29,500 international buyers from 143 countries, as the organiser Veronafiere announced. In 2022, 25,000 foreign buyers came to Verona. In response to enquiries from the wein.plus editorial team, the exhibiting wineries were very satisfied, despite considerably fewer visitors than in the years before Corona. Above all, they rated the great interest of the many trade visitors as well as the good organisation of the fair as particularly positive.
Among the five most important countries of origin, the United States clearly outperformed Germany with a plus of 45 per cent. Great Britain remained in third place, while China regained fourth place with more than 1,000 trade visitors, overtaking Canada (+19 per cent).
Due to the end of the Corona restrictions, Asian countries recorded a total increase in participants of 116 per cent, with Japan alone increasing by 143 per cent. There were also 38 per cent more visitors from the Americas than in 2022, with Brazil standing out with +46 per cent. Around 130 percent more experts travelled to Vinitaly from Australia than in 2022.
All figures are still below the pre-Corona level of 2019, when the organisers welcomed 125,000 participants, of which 33,000 were trade visitors. Veronafiere intends to continue paying special attention to this group in the future, spokespersons assure. More than 1,000 international guests were directly invited and attended to. More than 11,000 meetings between producers and buyers were arranged via the Vinitaly Plus platform.
The next Vinitaly Verona is scheduled to take place from 14 - 17 April 2024.
