Chateau Tour du Haut-Moulin

Israeli winemakers Golan Flam and Eran Pick MW, the first Master of Wine (MW) from Israel, have purchased the cru bourgeois Château Tour du Haut-Moulin in Haut-Médoc. According to Flam from Golan Flam Winery and Pick from Tzora Vineyards, they spent five years looking for a purchase opportunity in Bordeaux and are thus fulfilling a dream. Golan Flam's brother and partner in the winery, Gilad, said: "We looked at many properties. Some were too big, others too small, many didn't have the right terroir. But this property with its gravel soils near the Gironde has everything we were looking for".

The 24 hectares of vineyards at Château Tour du Haut-Moulin are located on the banks of the Gironde between Margaux and St Julien. The current owners Carol and Lionel Poitou will continue to help with the cultivation of the vineyards. The grape harvest in Israel normally ends in mid-September, when it begins in Bordeaux. According to Golan Flam, the two regions complement each other perfectly. Israeli wineries have developed modern methods of cultivating vineyards in hot, dry climates. "Bordeaux has learnt from us, as they are now struggling with drought and hotter years. We want to contribute our knowledge and learn from Bordeaux at the same time." Eran Pick was advised on Tzora by Jean-Claude Berrouet, the former oenologist at Château Pétrus.
