The Consorzio Barbera d'Asti e Vini del Monferrato has approved a new DOCG in Piedmont: The DOCG Terre Alfieri in the southwest of the province of Asti as well as in Cuneo comprises eleven localities and allows the cultivation of Arneis for white wines and Nebbiolo for red wines. For wines in the "Superiore" category, the Arneis must mature for six months and the Nebbiolo for twelve months, of which at least six months must be spent in barriques for the reds. The Nebbiolo Riserva matures for at least 24 months, twelve months of which in wooden barrels.
