The most expensive vineyards in Italy, and thus the most valuable agricultural land, continue to be in the Barolo region. There, one hectare of vineyards costs between 250,000 and 2 million euros. Next comes the zone around Lake Kaltern in South Tyrol (between 440,000 and 900,000 euros), Brunello di Montalcino (250,000 to 900,000 euros) and the DOC Bolgheri with prices between 240,000 and 750,000 euros. In the DOCG Valdobbiadene, the heart of the Prosecco region, a hectare of vineyard costs between 300,000 and 600,000 euros, in South Tyrol (Vinschgau and Eisacktal) 300,000 to 500,000 euros. The cheapest vineyards are in the Cannonau dell'Ogliastra zone in Sardinia, with prices between 11,000 and 16,000 euros. These figures were announced by the Institute for Enology and Viticulture (Crea) in its current land value survey.

In many wine-growing areas, slight decreases were recorded in 2022, especially in the top prices, although the number of purchases and sales of agricultural land grew by 1.7 per cent to 150,000 transactions. Overall, agricultural land prices increased by 1.5 per cent in Italy compared to 2021, with higher increases in the north-west (+3.2 per cent) and north-east (+1.2 per cent) than in the centre (+0.5 per cent) and south (+0.8 per cent). On average, a hectare of agricultural land will cost €22,600 in Italy in 2022, with ranges from €15,000 in the south to €47,000 in the northeast.

The most valuable areas not planted with wine are the apple orchards in South Tyrol's Vinschgau and Etsch valleys, which cost between 350,000 and 500,000 euros per hectare.
