Hollywood star Brad Pitt is suing his ex-wife Angelina Jolie because of the sale of their 40 percent share in the joint wine estate Château Miraval. According to a report of the British "Drinks Business", Pitt claims that Jolie sold her shares - without Pitt's knowledge - to the SPI Group of the Russian investor Yuri Shefler. Accordingly, the lawsuit is based on the fact that Château Miraval was almost single-handedly turned into a success story with a turnover of several million euro by Pitt, whereas Jolie "did not participate in these efforts". She had now sold her share with the intention that Yuri Shefler and his partners would try to control the business - in order to "undermine" Pitt's investment in Miraval.

In this context, the statement by SPI manager Damian McKinney that his company had acquired Miraval at a "very fair price" seems piquant. According to the court documents, Brad Pitt had paid 60 per cent of the amount to buy Château Miraval, while Jolie had only taken 40 per cent.

The Russian SPI Group is a global player in the alcohol industry with beer, spirits and wine. SPI is also active in the real estate business. The Tenute del Mondo Group, which took over Marchesi de Frescobaldi with the Ornellaia, Masseto, Castel Giocondo and Luce Delle Vite wine estates in 2006, belongs to the group. In 2011, the group bought the Argentinian wine group's Achaval Ferrer winery, and in 2015 it added Señorío de Arinzano in Navarra, Spain.
