The restaurant "Central" in Lima (Peru) has been named the best restaurant in the world at the "World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards 2023" in Valencia, Spain. The top restaurant of chefs Virgilio Martinez and Pía León thus replaces "Geranium" in Copenhagen as the 2022 award winner.

Disfrutar" in Barcelona and "Diverxo" in Madrid follow in second and third place. Fourth place goes to the "Asador Etxkebarri" and fifth place to the "Alchemist" restaurant in Copenhagen.

The best restaurants in German-speaking countries are "Steirereck" by Heinz Reitbauer jr. in Vienna in 18th place, followed by Schloss Schauenstein in Fürstenau (Switzerland) in 26th place, "Tim Raue" in Berlin in 40th place and "Nobelhart & schmutzig", also in Berlin, in 45th place.

The restaurants in the top 50 come from 24 countries on five continents. Twelve restaurants were included in the list for the first time. The jury of the award, which currently has 1080 members worldwide, is divided into 27 voting regions, each of which is headed by a chairman of the academy. The juries for each region include gastronomic critics, chefs, restaurateurs and gourmets, each of whom awards 10 votes.
