A group of winegrowers from France, Italy, Germany, Greece and Georgia is campaigning for the cultivation of rootless vines and made concrete demands at a meeting in Monte Carlo. They want to achieve a change in European legislation that clearly allows and regulates the planting of rootless vines. On the other hand, they are fighting for the recognition of rootless vines as a Unesco world cultural heritage. At the head of the movement is Loïc Pasquet, who produces the most expensive wine in the world with his Bordeaux "Liber Pater" in the Graves appellation at a bottle price of about 30,000 euros. According to Pasquet, every winegrower should be allowed to decide for himself whether he wants to take the risk of his vines being attacked by phylloxera.

"If we plant a ungrafted vine in the place where it was born, we save a heritage," said Loïc Pasquet. He said it was a matter of "no longer cooking grape variety soups", which Pasquet said were responsible for the industrialisation of viticulture and the standardisation of wine taste. ungrafted vines made it possible to produce wines that were "truly the cultural expression of a place".
