The area of organically certified vineyards in Argentina has increased significantly in the last 15 years. According to VinoDinámicos, a group founded in Mendoza in 2018 to promote sustainable viticulture in Argentina, there were only 273 hectares of organically certified vineyards in the whole of Argentina in 2005. By 2020, there were 7,312 hectares - an increase of 2,578 per cent in 15 years. Another 432 hectares are biodynamically certified. What was once the preserve of a small but passionate group of producers serving a niche market has become a trend. The growing demand for sustainably produced wines has set off a boom in which producers large and small are raising the bar for Argentine organic wine.
Argentina has one of the best climates in the world for organic and biodynamic viticulture. The country boasts not only its phylloxera-free vines, which are very old, but also its reliable warmth and low rainfall, which facilitates organic pest and disease control.
