Österreich Wein Marketing (ÖWM) has launched the campaign "Schmecke die Herkunft" ("Taste the Origin"), which focuses on direct sales to winegrowers. The core of the campaign is a website where interested parties can find all the information they need about winegrowers with on-farm sales, online wine dealers and all Austrian wine-growing regions. The winegrowers themselves are also to become ambassadors of the campaign. According to ÖWM, they could use the social media to convey the character of their wine-growing regions and encourage interested people to order the wines to their homes.

The Corona crisis has especially boosted online trade in Austria, reports ÖWM. This trend is also confirmed by representatives of the wine trade. While some retailers are recording increases in the low double-digit percentage range, the trading company Spar, for example, reports a general increase in turnover due to a higher volume of online orders. In addition, the wine retail chain Wein & Co has recorded an almost threefold increase in online sales in the past 14 days compared to the average for the previous year.
