The new date of ProWein 2022 from 15 to 17 May overlaps with the London Wine Fair, which takes place from 16 to 18 May. The organisers of the London Wine Fair have reacted with regret to yesterday's announcement by ProWein. Hannah Tovey, Event Director of the London Wine Fair, said: "This is an extremely aggressive move by ProWein. It represents a direct attack on the London Wine Fair and the UK drinks market. The fair has been an integral part of the wine trade's calendar for more than 40 years. The decision has been made without consideration for many of the exhibitors or the British public. We have made numerous attempts to contact the organiser since last week when rumours of a change of date began doing the rounds. No one has responded."

ProWein director Bastian Mingers, when asked by Drinks Business, defended the show's decision to set a new date in mid-May. Mingers said they had had "no choice". However, he said, it should remain a "date anomaly". ProWein would be held in March again next year, he said. "We are aware that we overlap with the London Wine Fair in May and we regret this very much," Mingers explained.
