The Winzer Krems cooperative, which is also known by its address Sandgrube 13, put a new bottling plant into operation at the turn of the year. It is part of a 37-million investment and modernisation programme that also includes the construction of a new fermentation and ageing cellar as well as a bottle storage facility.

The new plant, which claims to be the "most modern in Europe", can fill 15,000 bottles per hour, which means a 20 per cent increase in capacity. No grassland was built on for the new bottling hall, and it was also equipped with a green roof. A 125 kWp photovoltaic system supplies the bottling hall and cellar with electricity, and the energy supply was switched from gas to district heating. More sunlight and better sound insulation should make for more pleasant working conditions.

The Winzer Krems-Sandgrube 13 cooperative processes the grapes from 1,200 hectares of vineyards from 800 member winegrowers, making it the largest quality wine producer in Austria. 60 percent of the wines are exported.
