Hochschule Geisenheim University has appointed Dr Johanna Döring as the world's first female professor of organic viticulture. In doing so, the university is emphasising its leading role in research and teaching in this field. Döring builds on the research of Prof Randolf Kauer, with whom she has worked for many years - for example on the long-term comparative trial INBIODYN and on the development of strategies for copper reduction in organic viticulture. Döring is a Geisenheim graduate and has written many articles on the effects of organic viticulture on biodiversity, plant growth and grape quality. She has also been a member of the European Commission's Advisory Group on Organic Viticulture since 2021.

Döring emphasises that research into organic viticulture is a unique selling point of the Geisenheim site. Its sustainable further development is important to her.
