The DO Cava has recorded a sales increase of 4.58 percent in 2022. According to official data from the umbrella organisation Consejo Regulador de Cava, almost 250 million bottles of Cava were sold last year. According to the report, exports accounted for 69 percent of total sales. Germany maintained its position as the top buyer (up 2.22 %), followed by the USA, Belgium and Great Britain. Sweden was included in the ranking of the five most important markets for the first time and recorded an increase in sales of 35.34 per cent compared to the previous year. But sales in Spain itself also rose by 13.15 per cent to just under 78 million bottles.

Organic cava, in particular, is experiencing great demand: the new regulations stipulate that all top wines in the categories Reserva, Gran Reserva and Paraje Calificado Cavas must be produced 100 per cent organically by 2025. The number of organic wines produced and labelled is currently over 32 million bottles. This is a growth of 40.70 per cent compared to 2021.

"2023 will be a year in which all producers of the Cava Denomination of Origin remain committed to the central quality concept. By joining forces, we want to make further progress," commented Javier Pagés, president of the Consejo Regulador de Cava, on the positive course of 2022.
