The Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) takes stock of the Wine Exchange in Mainz and is highly satisfied with the figures. A total of 3,500 professionals from 30 countries came to the Rheingold-Halle on Sunday and Monday. They had travelled from most European countries, but also from Australia, Brazil and Thailand. The Wine Exchange is the largest trade event dedicated exclusively to German wine.

Visitors tasted the new wines from 189 exhibitors, 95 per cent of all VDP members. Participation was therefore significantly higher than in the previous year, which VDP President Steffen Christmann sees as a sign of the growing appreciation interest in "high-quality, authentic wine from the German wine-growing regions". Christmann considers the high proportion of international and younger visitors from top gastronomy and trendy restaurants to be particularly exciting. He summarises: "I can hardly remember a VDP wine exchange that was so popular".
