The Bollinger Group has bought a second vineyard in Burgundy. With Château d'Etroyes, almost 50 hectares of vineyards on the Côte Chalonnaise, more precisely in the areas of Mercurey and Rully, are transferred to the ownership of the family-run group of companies. Among others, the Champagne houses Bollinger *****, Ayala, the vineyards Langlois-Chateau in Saumur, Hubert Brochard in Sancerre, Ponzi Vineyards in Oregon and Cognac Delamain belong to it. In Burgundy, the Bollinger group already acquired Domaine Chanson in 1999, which currently owns 78 ha of land.
As a Bollinger spokesman explained, the company wanted to buy land in the Côte Chalonnaise in order to secure the supply of grapes in the long term and to ensure greater price stability. Wines from this northern part of Burgundy are increasingly in demand because the area is still relatively cheap and the wines have a good price-performance ratio. The newly added grapes would be used for the production of wines of the Chanson brand. The purchase price is not known.
Château d'Etroyes will also be converted to organic viticulture as of this year and is to obtain certification in five years. The vineyards of Domaine Chanson are also either certified organic or in the conversion phase. By 2028, all of its own vineyards are to be certified organic.
