Elena Penna and Luca Currado Vietti have founded a new winery in the Barolo region called Cascina Penna Currado. Around a year ago, the two left the traditional Vietti family winery after it was sold to the American group Krause in 2016. Together with their children Giulia and Michele, they are now starting a new wine-growing project. The property is a historic Langhe estate, Cascina Lazzarito, and is located on a ridge in the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba.

Cascina Currado Vietti's first wine will be the Langhe Nebbiolo Bricco Lago. Barolo will follow in two or three years. According to the family, the winery has leased vineyards in two of the five most important sites in the appellation (MGA). The family did not provide any further details. The production of around 70,000 bottles will be divided between Dolcetto, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera, Nebbiolo d'Alba, Timorasso and Barolo. Around 20 hectares of vineyards are cultivated in total.

Luca Currado Vietti and his wife Elena Penna will continue their consultancy work at the Castiglion del Bosco winery in Montalcino and at Querciabella in Chianti Classico.
