The Spanish DO Monsant announces more transparent production rules. The focus is on several additional pieces of information that will be found on the back label of bottles in the future. Consumers should be able to see at a glance whether a winemaker (Viticultor - Elaborador), a bottler (Embotellador - Elaborador) or a wine trading house (Comercialitzadora) is behind the product. The aim is to strengthen consumer confidence in the Monsant appellation and brand. The Consejo Regulador has been working on the changes since 2016.

Only recently, a label fraud was uncovered in which back labels were faked on a large scale. Pilar Just, President of the Consejo Regulador, explained: "The back labels need to be updated to include special anti-counterfeiting materials with an additional hologram. We need to make sure that all the information on the labels of our wines is correct, verifiable and traceable."
