At the largest event for blockchain technology, the NFT.NYC in New York, the Austrian startup Cryptoagri from St. Pölten presented the digital wine storage cryptoWine. With it, wine collectors can secure limited Austrian top wines as NFT. Non Fungible Tokens are individually produced digital goods that represent a value in the form of cryptocurrency (tokens). The ownership of these assets is managed and documented on a distributed public database ("blockchain"). NFTs cannot be duplicated or shared and are currently considered counterfeit-proof.

Cryptoagri wants to offer wine lovers from all over the world the opportunity to buy a collection of top Austrian wines at auction and manage, give away or resell them via app on their mobile phones. The wines are provided with a storage certificate, added to the digital wine cellar as NFT and, according to the company, professionally stored under optimal conditions. According to Cryptoagri, experts taste the wines for quality control and inform about the optimal drinking time. Accordingly, customers can have the wines delivered at any time. The company wants to logistically combine transport journeys in order to reduce the CO2 footprint as well as the costs. Cryptoagri GmbH was founded by the Chamber of Agriculture of Lower Austria and plans to offer not only wines but also other agricultural products on the fast-growing NFT market.
