The Trentino-based winery Mezzacorona has been acquitted of charges of "infiltration of the Trentino economy by organised crime". The court justified its verdict after years of investigation, saying the allegations had "no basis in reality".
In 2020, police had seized assets worth 70 million euros from the Sicilian winery Feudo Arancia, which belongs to Mezzacorona. Suspicions of money laundering and links to the mafia were raised in connection with two land transactions. Mezzacorona has always denied the accusations and now declared to be "convinced, as always, of the absolute transparency, correctness and rectitude of his actions".
