The British royal couple Charles III and Camilla will also come to Bordeaux during their state visit to France on Friday. After meeting with emergency workers in communes affected by forest fires in 2022, Charles and Camilla will visit the 78-hectare Château Smith Haut Lafitte **** in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, known for its focus on organic farming and sustainability.

Owner Florence Cathiard recalls a meeting with the then Prince Charles 20 years ago: ''We talked about organic wine and biodiversity. He was really ahead of his time with organic farming and biodiversity. At that time, not many producers were doing organic farming. We didn't have anyone to guide us, but we took inspiration from him, and he gave me the confidence to pursue it." Charles III's particular interest in organic and sustainable farming is well known.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will spend around two hours at Château Smith Haut Lafitte. They will visit the red wine cellar and the vineyards where the grape harvest is currently taking place. At the end of their visit, they will taste some of the best magnum bottles from the private wine cellar of Florence and Daniel Cathiard.

Around 200 gendarmes and police officers, together with the royal security service, will ensure that everything runs smoothly.
