The northern Italian region of Barbera d'Asti DOCG Superiore increased its bottled wine production by more than two per cent last year, according to the Consorzio Barbera d'Asti e Vini del Monferrato. This corresponds to the higher sales figures. In total, almost five million bottles of wine were produced in the Barbera d'Asti DOCG Superiore region in 2020. After a rainy spring, which resulted in strong mildew pressure, the hot dry summer led to an early and high-quality harvest. This means that the further increase in demand can also be satisfied, said Filippo Mobrici, president of the Consorzio Barbera d'Asti e Vini del Monferrato. The entire region of Barbera d'Asti e Vini del Monferrato covers 11,000 hectares of vineyards and accounts for about 30 percent of the DOC and DOCG area of Piedmont.
