According to the official data now published by the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism (BMNT), 2.75 million hl of wine were produced in Austria in 2018. The harvest volume was thus almost 11 percent higher than in the previous year. This is about 24 percent more than the average harvest of the past five years, reports Österreich Weinmarketing (ÖWM). The 2018 vintage will thus be remembered not only for the earliest harvest of all times, but "also for the pleasing quantity and quality".

Contrary to the first, statistically extrapolated harvest estimates, the final result of the 2018 vintage was, however, lower than expected. The increase in volume of almost 270,000 hl is the result of higher yields in Lower Austria, the largest winegrowing province, with a plus of 15 percent, as well as increases in Burgenland with seven percent and in Wien with a plus of ten percent. On the other hand, according to ÖWM, the heavy rainfall during the flowering period and the selection effort after the rain at the beginning of September had resulted in a six percent lower harvest in Styria than in 2017.
